Apple - Product Design Engineering Internship

Home Product Design Team | Cupertino, CA | May - Aug 2025

Designed and developed a product accessory for Apple’s Home Products team, establishing design criteria and driving stability, cost, and manufacturability decisions through structured analysis.

Validated first-principles with force gauge testing and multi-process prototyping, delivering a cost-optimized concept presented to the Home Product Design team and senior leadership.

Product Design and Development

Led the design of a product accessory for Apple’s Home Products team, translating product objectives into measurable design criteria spanning stability, cost, and manufacturability. Structured decision matrices were used to evaluate tradeoffs and guide concept selection.

Collaborated cross-functionally with Softgoods, Acoustics, Magnets, and Reliability teams to refine material strategy, structural architecture, and assembly approach while aligning with system-level requirements.

Conducted first-principles analyses to model stability and validate assumptions, later confirming performance through force gauge testing. Insights from testing informed iterative refinements to improve structural behavior and user interaction.

Developed iterative prototypes using MJF, PolyJet, FDM, and softgoods processes to assess feasibility, manufacturability, and cost implications across design directions.

The final concept synthesized performance, cost, and manufacturing considerations into a cost-optimized solution presented to the Home Product Design team and senior leadership.
