Foldable Camping Chair

As part of a team of 4, the final project of my Mechanics II: 3D Design class was to create a portable, foldable camping chair that balanced comfort, durability, and ease of transport for outdoor enthusiasts. The chair had to be lightweight and easy to assemble while providing reliable support for hikers and campers.

Design Overview

Our design took inspiration from deck chairs, featuring a collapsible frame made from connecting PVC pipes using T-connectors and L-connectors for easy transport and a durable nylon seat fabric that could resist outdoor wear and potential wildlife encounters.

Using CAD, we developed the 3D model of the chair and we performed FEA to confirm that the frame could handle the weight and stresses of outdoor use, while maintaining portability.

Our final product weighed 3.7 pounds (1.68 kg) and had ultimately met all the design goals for portability, safety, and comfort, providing a practical and reliable solution for outdoor enthusiasts.
